OUR PASTOR
Superintendent Dion A. McCarthy, Ph.D.
The goal of life is to prepare for life with God, discipline the whole person, and to love my fellow man through the witnessing of the word of God winning souls to Christ.
The Elder Dion Andrew McCarthy is the fourth born to Elder and Mrs. Samuel and Omega McCarthy in Chicago, Illinois. Raised on the south side of Chicago, Dion matriculated through the Chicago school system while attending the Gethsemane church with his brothers and sisters as a second home that his father founded and pastored. Dion’s love for God and the church was evident at an early age. The call on his life to preach was demonstrated through his early childhood play, while he preached to his brothers and sisters from behind a cardboard box for his pulpit.
The Superintendent Samuel S. McCarthy licensed Elder Dion A. McCarthy as a minister at the Gethsemane Church Of God In Christ in 1983. After serving faithfully as a minister, he was ordained in 1987 by the Bishop Bennie Earl Goodwin, Sr. and served as the Assistant Jurisdictional Secretary for the Fifth Jurisdiction of Illinois. Thoroughgood, and The Bishop Mathew Williams. Elder McCarthy has also served in the mission’s field as the Interim Jurisdictional Secretary for the Trinidad-Tobago Jurisdiction.
Elder Dion A. McCarthy formerly served as Pastor of the Macedonia Church Of God In Christ, Paducah, KY, under the auspices of the Bishop Marcus Sykes, and the Murray Church Of God In Christ, in Murray, KY. under the auspices of the Bishop A. T. Moore. Elder McCarthy served as an Interim Pastor for two churches, assisting the Bishop while serving as the Jurisdictional Secretary of the Fifth Jurisdiction of Illinois. Elder McCarthy was lastly assigned to the Omega Church Of God In Christ, to serve as the Interim Pastor until he was called back to his home church (Gethsemane) to assist in the pastoral duties along side his father the Bishop Samuel Steven McCarthy and appointed as Co-Pastor of the Gethsemane Church. God is glorified through our labor of love to His people. In February 2003, Elder McCarthy was elevated and appointed by Bishop Samuel S. McCarthy of the Fifth Jurisdiction of Illinois, as Superintendent of the Philippians District, where he serves as the founding Superintendent of nine churches.
